Assistant Controller

We’re looking for an Assistant Controller to join our finance team and play a key role in both managing our accounting team and driving in-depth accounting analysis for our loans business. The ideal candidate brings technical accounting background and a sharp analytical mindset, leveraging AI tools to improve and streamline processes.This role requires someone who can balance day-to-day team oversight with hands-on work in complex accounting areas, particularly around the loan portfolio and financial reporting.

The base salary for this role is: $95,000-$125,000
Location - Vancouver or PST/MST time zone (Remote)

What you’ll do:

●  Manage an accounting team, ensuring a timely and accurate execution of core functions

●  Own and enhance month-end close processes and internal controls, including identifying opportunities to integrate AI-powered tools for automation.

●  Perform deep-dive accounting analysis of complex transactions with a specific focus on our loan business

●  Support audit preparation and work with external auditors as needed.

●  Streamline and consolidate accounting processes across multiple businesses

●  Work closely with the Controller on key projects.

●  Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting as necessary

●  Support audit preparation and work with external auditors as needed

●  Provide support to the Treasury function

●  Provide regular variance analysis on key financial information

What you'll need:

●  CPA with minimum 5 years progressive work experience is mandatory.

●  Previous experience in a public company and IFRS reporting is preferred. Financial services industry experience is definitely an asset.

●  Financial reporting experience.

●  Advanced experience using MS Excel; working knowledge of Netsuite.

●  Successful experience with process improvement/redesign and change management..

●  Quick learner and adaptable to a dynamic environment.

●  Strong interest in AI to improve accounting and financial reporting functions

●  Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to understand complex issues.

●  Self-starter with a high level of ownership and accountability.

●  Strong technical ability

●  Able to perform detailed variance analysis.

●  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
