Senior Manager, Fraud Risk Strategy

Location: Remote (Canada)

Base Salary: $130,000 – $150,000 CAD

Why This Role Exists

As Mogo scales, fraud risk complexity is increasing across products and channels. Our current fraud operations rely heavily on manual review. To support growth, we must transition to a more automated, data-driven, and scalable fraud risk framework.

This role will lead that transformation.

The Senior Manager, Fraud Risk Strategy will modernize our fraud controls, implement a new fraud risk platform, and evolve the team from manual case processing to an exception-based, intelligence-driven model.

This is a builder role with direct people leadership responsibility and enterprise-level impact.

What You’ll Do

Fraud Platform Modernization

  • Lead vendor evaluation, selection, and implementation of a new fraud risk platform.
  • Partner with Engineering and Product to integrate fraud decisioning into core customer journeys.
  • Design scalable rule-based and model-driven detection frameworks.

Automation & Operating Model Transformation

  • Redesign fraud workflows to significantly reduce manual review volume.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities across onboarding, transaction monitoring, and account protection.
  • Establish exception-based review processes where analysts focus on complex, high-risk cases.
  • Define KPIs to measure automation effectiveness, queue reduction, and loss outcomes.

People Leadership

  • Directly manage and develop two Fraud Analysts.
  • Shift team focus from manual case processing to higher-value investigative and analytical work.
  • Build structured review standards, documentation, and performance metrics.
  • Develop future capability roadmap for fraud analytics and automation.

Process & Control Governance

  • Document end-to-end fraud procedures and ensure controls are audit-ready and regulator-aligned.
  • Conduct gap assessments and implement standardized policies across lending and wealth products.
  • Monitor fraud losses, detection rates, false positives, and operational efficiency.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Operations to embed fraud controls into business workflows.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on emerging fraud trends including ATO, synthetic identity, and AI-enabled fraud schemes.
  • Support incident response and high-severity investigations when required.
     

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years in fraud risk strategy, fraud analytics, or fraud operations within fintech or financial services.
  • Experience implementing or migrating fraud detection platforms.
  • Proven track record reducing manual fraud review through automation and system design.
  • Prior people management experience (2+ direct reports preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of fraud typologies and emerging risks.
  • SQL proficiency required; Python or similar strongly preferred.
  • Experience operating in regulated environments with audit exposure.
  • Structured, systems-oriented thinker who can build durable processes in scaling environments.
